Uba Sani wins human capital development award over education, skills investments

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has received the Distinguished Human Capital Development Champion Award from the Chartered Institute of Human Capital Development of Nigeria (CIHCDN) in recognition of his administration’s investments in education, vocational training, healthcare and youth empowerment.

The award was presented at the institute’s national conference held at Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.

According to the institute, the recognition celebrates Sani’s people-centred policies and initiatives aimed at expanding access to education, healthcare, vocational skills, economic opportunities and improved living conditions across Kaduna State.

The governor was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, who expressed appreciation to the institute for recognising the state government’s human capital development efforts.

Maiyaki said the administration considered investment in people, particularly young people, women and vulnerable groups, central to its development agenda.

He highlighted the establishment of three vocational training and skills development centres in Rigachikun, Soba and Saminaka, which are designed to train about 32,000 young people annually in 14 trades.

According to him, the centres are intended to equip young people with practical skills to improve their employment prospects and encourage entrepreneurship.

On education, the commissioner said the administration had constructed 736 classrooms, renovated more than 1,200 others, recruited 10,000 teachers and trained over 33,000 teachers.

He also cited the reduction of tuition fees in state-owned tertiary institutions by up to 50 per cent, alongside scholarship and bursary programmes aimed at reducing financial barriers to education.

In the agricultural sector, Maiyaki said the government had distributed 1,400 truckloads of free fertiliser to 420,000 smallholder farmers to support rural livelihoods and food security.

He added that the administration had revitalised 255 primary healthcare centres, improved the welfare of healthcare professionals and expanded access to medical services, particularly in underserved communities.

The commissioner said the government’s development agenda was designed to ensure that public interventions reached residents regardless of their political, religious or ethnic affiliations.

He described the award as encouragement for the administration to consolidate its reforms and expand investments in education, healthcare and skills development.

The institute said the award recognises leadership in areas including education, healthcare, rural transformation, financial inclusion, youth empowerment and capacity building.
