UMYU expels 57 students for exam malpractices

Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, has expelled 57 students over their involvement in various forms of examination malpractices.

The decision was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the university’s Head of Information and Protocol, Hajiya Fatima Sanda. It followed the 125th Regular Meeting of the university’s Senate, where the recommendations of the Central Examination Misconduct Committee were considered and approved.

The committee had investigated cases of malpractice across several faculties before submitting its report.

In addition to the expulsions, the university also rusticated five students for two semesters in the 2024/2025 academic session. Their affected examination papers have been cancelled. Two other students received official written warnings, which have now been added to their permanent academic records.

The university reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity, stressing a zero-tolerance policy for examination misconduct.

“UMYU remains committed to preserving the sanctity of its academic standards and will not hesitate to sanction any act that undermines the integrity of its examinations,” the statement read.

Students were advised to strictly follow academic guidelines and avoid any form of malpractice, as future violations will attract similar or more severe penalties.
