Unknown assailants kill woman, six children in Kano

A woman and her six children were killed in their home in the Chiranchi Dorayi area of Kano metropolis, Kano State, on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The incident has left residents of the community shocked and grieving.

According to local sources, the victims were attacked by unknown assailants.

One of the children, an infant, was reportedly found in a nearby well.

Police officers have since arrived at the scene and commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the killings.

Details regarding the exact time of the incident and the motive behind the attack were still unclear as investigations continued.

The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing of a woman and her six children following a violent attack in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis, on Saturday afternoon.

In a statement made available to journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2025, reporting an attack on the residence of one Haruna Bashir in the area.

According to the statement, the victims were identified as Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children. They were allegedly attacked by unknown assailants who forcefully gained access to their home and inflicted fatal injuries using dangerous weapons.

CSP Kiyawa said that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, immediately deployed a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani.

He added that the bodies of the victims were evacuated and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that CP Bakori has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, to lead a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are identified and brought to justice.

The Kano State Police Command expressed its condolences to the bereaved family, residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the people of Kano State over the tragic incident.
