Varsity lecturer found dead in apartment

A lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry in the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna in Niger State, Dr Adefolalu Funmilola Sherifat, has been found dead in her residence in the state capital.

It was gathered that the lecturer was found slaughtered in her residence in the Gbaiko Area of Minna on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

The chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the university,  Prof. Gbolahan Bolarin, who confirmed the incident, said the lecturer’s body was discovered on Sunday morning when her church members traced her home after she was not seen during service.

Some residents, however, disclosed that Sherifat, after forcing the door to her house open, was found in her pool of blood with her throat slit and knives found beside her.

The residents added that the lecturer’s husband – who was a professor in the same university – had died.

It was further gathered that the lecturer, until her death, was staying with a female househelp but laid off the girl last Friday.

Also speaking on the incident, the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said the body of the late lecturer had been moved to the mortuary.
