VIDEO: ₦30,000 bigger than me, I am broke — Nigerian lecturer

A Nigerian doctor and university lecturer has sparked conversations online after opening up about his current financial difficulties, revealing that he does not have ₦30,000 to his name.

In a post shared on social media, the academic described himself as completely broke and struggling to provide basic needs for his family.

He said he has neither cash nor money in his bank account and recently had to sell his car battery to raise funds for food.

“I am a doctor and a lecturer but, walahi, I don’t have ₦30,000 — not in the bank and not in my pocket. I had to sell the battery of my car to be able to feed my family three days ago,” he wrote.

His disclosure has drawn widespread reactions, with many expressing shock that a professional in the education and health sectors could face such hardship amid Nigeria’s current economic challenges.

While some sympathised with his situation and blamed the rising cost of living, others questioned the circumstances surrounding his finances.

One user, @Dootyoember, doubted the claim, while @amiinu556406 said he had known the lecturer for years and confirmed his academic background.

Another commenter, @rasor007, called for more details about his salary and family responsibilities before drawing conclusions.

The post has since fueled broader discussions about the welfare of lecturers and professionals in the country, as well as concerns over income sustainability in the public sector.
