VIDEO: JAMB candidates stranded in UTME mock exam room for hours

Candidates writing the 2025 UTME mock examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have been left stranded at their centre in Lagos State.

The examination centre was identified as Duntro High School in Ijeshatedo, Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State.

An X (formerly Twitter) user, Dele Odufuye, disclosed this via a video and statement shared on the social media platform on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Odufuye said the JAMB candidates, accompanied by their parents, arrived at their centres at about 6:30 a.m. for the UTME mock examination scheduled for 8 a.m. but were yet to start the exercise at 1:30 p.m.

Odufuye disclosed that the candidates were locked in a room with no power supply, saying the equipment put in place by JAMB was not working.

He berated JAMB and the federal government over the poor conduct of the examination.

Odufuye wrote: “It is very sad this issue in not trending in Nigeria. The only body tasked with conducting examination into Nigerian universities has failed year on year on its mission and the leadership are still retained in their jobs.

“A lot of us cannot keep employees that are not performing well, yet we keep leadership position holders (because I don’t want to call them leaders) in offices above their individual capacities.

“The same hardship I went through about 30yrs ago in the hands of JAMB, my son is inheriting one that is harder.

“Dear friends in public office close to the President, please bring this to his attention that education is failing in Nigeria.

“Today is mock-jamb exam and the entire JAMB system has been down. Children and parents arrived at their centers since 6.30am for an 8am exam that is yet to start at 1.30pm. Yet, they are locked inside a room, no AC, no light, heat blazing and hunger beating them.

“Yet, you’ll say they did not perform very well in their exams. Shame on the Registrar for such leadership under his watch and the Minister for Education, shame on you.”

He further shared a video showing JAMB candidates calling for help at the mock examination centre.

“At this center, you can see children by the windows crying and calling to their parents to come to their rescue after standing inside heat for over 7hrs. Yes! No enough seats students scheduled for this center. Every parent here experienced similar situation 30-40yrs ago,” Odufuye captioned the video.
