VIDEO: NDLEA intercepts drugs hidden in car compartments

The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a consignment of tramadol containing 14,428 pills tucked in the body compartments of a Honda Civic car along the Numan-Jalingo Road in Adamawa State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Babafemi disclosed that two wanted suspects – 30-year-old Ajim Samuel, well known as Boss, and 36-year-old Davidson John Joshua, fondly called Dantala – were arrested while on their way from Onitsha in Anambra State where they had gone to buy the illicit drugs which they tucked in the body compartments of the car marked.

He noted that the NDLEA officers also recovered 21 grams of cannabis and N19,280 cash from the suspects.

The NDLEA spokesman added that a commercial bus driver, Ogunleye Adegoke, was arrested along the Gbongan-Ibadan expressway in Osun State after the anti-narcotic operatives discovered 2,000 capsules of tramadol, 60 tablets of Rohypnol, and 10 bottles of codeine syrup concealed in the spare tyre compartment of his vehicle.

Babafemi revealed that a total of 343,000 pills of opioids were seized by NDLEA officers from a 33-year-old suspect, Lawan Abubakar, in Azare town, Katagum, Bauchi State, on Friday, March 15.

He said the Nigerian Army, on Friday, also transferred a 37-year-old suspect, Muhammadu Rabi’u, with 64,000 pills of tramadol recovered from him to the Bauchi State command of the NDLEA.

Babafemi further disclosed that 24kg of cannabis was seized from the driver of a transport company, Ikechukwu Obialo, at Sagamu Interchange in Ogun State by NDLEA operatives on Wednesday, March 15, adding that two suspects – Ali Amadu, 27, and Adamu Hassan, 33 – were nabbed with 125.3kg cannabis, 3,400 pills of tramadol, and 30 bottles of codeine syrup in Kano State.
