A 74-year-old man, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, has been arrested by the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja after a large consignment of cocaine was discovered in foil papers and balloons concealed in his luggage.
The septuagenarian who claimed he was travelling to London in United Kingdom for vacation, was arrested by NDLEA officers at the departure hall of the Abuja airport while attempting to board a British Airways flight BA082 to London on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
The spokesperson for the anti-drug agency, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this via a statement issued on Sunday, March 15.
Babafemi said a search of the 74-year-old man’s luggage led to the discovery of cocaine weighing 11 kilograms concealed inside food items, including ground dry pepper, carefully wrapped in foil papers and balloons.

He added that the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities by NDLEA Commands continued across the country in the past week.
Babafemi listed the activities to include WADA sensitisation lecture delivered to students and staff of ERCC Secondary School, Duguru, Nasarawa State; Awoyemi Commercial High School, Okeho, Oyo State; and Ogunu Primary School, Ogunu, Delta State; among others.
