Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar
The Federal Government has warned Nigerians planning to travel to the United Kingdom to be wary of violence risk, following the recent killing of three girls in the UK.
The government gave the warning via a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Eche Abu-Obe, on Monday, August 5, 2024.
The ministry said the violence has assumed “dangerous proportions” following attacks on security operatives and damage to infrastructure in the UK.
It stated: “There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK, stemming from the killing of three young girls at a concert.
“The violence has assumed dangerous proportions as evidenced by reported attacks on law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure.
“To this end, citizens are advised to be extra vigilant and take measures as follows:
3 children die, 10 injured in UK knife attack
“Avoid political processions and protests, rallies or marches.
“Avoid crowded areas and large gatherings.
“Be vigilant and self-aware at all times.
“Contact the High Commission with a view to passing information that could be of interest.
“Demonstrations by far-right and other extra-parliamentary groups in parts of the UK in recent weeks have been large, and in some instances unruly.
“These disturbances have only been aggravated by the unfortunate deaths of the three girls and it has spawned an anti-immigration narrative, with particular emphasis on Muslim immigrants or persons of colour being targeted.
“This advisory remains under review.”
It would be recalled that a large crowd of anti-Muslim protesters clashed with police last Tuesday in England where three children were stabbed to death and ten others injured.
“Sadly we can confirm that a third child has passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a knife attack in Southport yesterday morning,” Merseyside Police said in a statement on Tuesday, July 30.
