The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Suleiman Kum as new Head of its Nigeria National Office.
Kum succeeds Dr Amos Josiah Dangut, the immediate past Head of National Office (HNO), now Registrar of WAEC.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Adesina said Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to become Senior Deputy Registrar in 2024.
Before his appointment, Kum had served as deputy registrar in the Office of the HNO.
He has held several positions within the council, including Director of Administration, Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, Head of Security Printing Department and Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano.
Kum also served as Senior Deputy Registrar, Test Administration, from September 2025 to August 2026.

His extensive experience covered Test Development, Examination Administration, Examination Security, as well as branch and zonal office management.
Kum pioneered several administrative and technological innovations during his career, including Variable Data Printing and enhanced security features in the council’s security printing operations.
He also led the introduction of facial recognition biometric devices to replace the council’s attendance system.
The new WAEC boss who hails from Langtang North Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State was born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, the capital of Niger State.
He obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1992, with Second Class Honours, Upper Division.
He later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in 2025.
He recently completed a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Administration and Planning.
