The West African Examinations Council has announced the commencement of registration for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series.

The examination body disclosed the development in a post shared on its official X handle on Friday.

According to WAEC, registration for the examination opened on Sunday, May 4, 2026, and will close on Thursday, July 31, 2026.

The council stated that the examination would be conducted entirely through the Computer-Based Examination format.

WAEC also fixed the registration fee at ₦37,000.

Prospective candidates were advised to visit the nearest WAEC office in their respective states to confirm available examination towns before completing their registration process.

The examination body encouraged candidates to register early to avoid last-minute congestion and to familiarise themselves with the computer-based testing format.

The WASSCE for Private Candidates, popularly known as GCE, is organised annually for individuals who are not enrolled in regular secondary schools, allowing them to sit for the examination independently and obtain the certificate.
