The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially confirmed Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office.
Kum, 56, succeeds Dr Amos Dangut, whose three-year tenure ended on October 1, 2026. Dangut has since assumed office as WAEC Registrar and Chief Executive Officer.
WAEC Head of Public Affairs, Nigeria, Moyosola Adesina, announced the appointment in a statement on Sunday, describing Kum as a seasoned test developer, administrator and executive.
Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as Assistant Registrar II and rose through several senior positions, most recently serving as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration.
He previously served as Deputy Registrar in the office of the Head of the Nigeria National Office.
According to WAEC, Kum has played key roles in developing and implementing technological and administrative innovations within the council.
The council said he pioneered the use of Variable Data Printing and enhanced code-security features in security printing, while also overseeing the replacement of attendance systems with facial-recognition biometric devices.
He also led the delivery of Achievement Tests using the Computer-Based Examination format and established the WAEC Gusau office as a Custodial Centre.
Kum has served in several operational and administrative capacities, including Head of Examinations Security in Awka, Yola and Makurdi; Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano; Head of the Security Printing Department; Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja; Director of Administration; and Senior Deputy Registrar for Test Administration.
WAEC said his experience covers test development, examination administration, security, as well as branch and zonal office management.
Kum, who is from Plateau State, holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria and is currently pursuing a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning at the institution.
The council described him as an experienced administrator whose career has been marked by integrity, diligence, innovation and commitment to service.
According to WAEC, his leadership across various portfolios has earned him institutional commendations, accolades and awards within and outside the council.
