The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has firmly debunked a circulating press release that falsely claimed the cancellation of the English Language paper written on Wednesday, May 28, during the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, Head of the Public Affairs Department at WAEC Nigeria, clarified that the English Language paper—as well as all other scheduled exams—remains valid and has not been cancelled.
She emphasized that the viral notice did not originate from WAEC and does not reflect the council’s position.
“The council has identified the release as fake and urges the public to disregard such misinformation.
It is the work of mischief-makers aiming to tarnish the image of WAEC and spread panic among candidates,” the statement read.

WAEC reiterated that all authentic information regarding its activities is shared exclusively through its verified social media channels and recognized media outlets.
Additionally, all official press statements are issued by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.
The council thanked the public for their continued trust and support over the past 73 years and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering credible examinations and improving educational standards in Nigeria.
“We remain devoted to innovative solutions that enhance our service delivery to the Nigerian child,” the statement concluded.
