Presidency

The Presidency has refuted claims that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, is battling a serious health condition, clarifying that he is currently in London on an officially approved break.

A video circulating on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, showed the minister looking healthy and cheerful while attending the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset House in London, the United Kingdom.

In the footage, Edun was seen at the O’DA Art Gallery booth, engaging in lively conversation with the gallery’s creative director and founder, Obida Obioha. The duo discussed the artworks on display and commended the ingenuity of African artists.

Prior to his trip, there had been reports claiming that the minister had fallen ill, with some online platforms alleging he suffered a stroke or had become incapacitated.

However, the Presidency dismissed the claims, describing them as false and misleading.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who shared the video on his X account, wrote: “Finance Minister Wale Edun visits an art exhibition in the UK.

“He is in the country for an officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy.”

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, led Nigeria’s delegation to the ongoing World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., which commenced on Monday, October 13.

The Presidency reiterated that Edun remains active and continues to discharge his duties effectively, urging the public to disregard unverified reports about his health.
