‘We’re all prisoners’: Obi celebrates Easter with inmates

The former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has enjoined prisoners not to feel isolated and finished, saying every Nigerian is in prison seeking the face of God for freedom and redemption.

Obi, who celebrated the Easter mass with prisoners at the correctional centre in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday, March 31, 2024, told the inmates that from the day’s reading, Mary Magdalene who was the first to discover the resurrection of Jesus Christ was once unholy but was reformed and privileged to discover the rising of Christ even before the Apostles.

“What that means is that being in prison is not the end of life as they could get corrected and enjoy salvation even before the so-called free people,” the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election said.

Obi: Why I ignored LP convention

Obi, therefore, donated some food items and money for the project in the correctional centre.

Also speaking at the correctional centre, the Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Valerie Okeke, said if Mary could transform to be among the early beneficiaries of Christ’s resurrection, inmates could turn around to be great in society and before God.

The highlight of Obi’s Easter celebration with the inmates was the dancing and elation of the inmates in their various cultural groups as the prisoners described the former governor as their friend and father.
