Why kidnappers killed two Oyo teachers — Rescued principal

The principal of Community High School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, has revealed that the kidnappers who abducted her, other teachers and pupils deliberately killed two teachers to pressure the government into meeting their demands.

Alamu disclosed this on Monday while addressing journalists after she and the other rescued victims were received by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Oyo State Government House.

According to her, the abductors killed one of the teachers, Mr. Michael, on the second day of their captivity, while another teacher identified as Deacon was killed on the first Sunday of June.

“They killed them purposely because they thought it would force the hand of the government to provide them whatever they wanted. They already knew that the whole world was interested in our case,” she said.

She added that despite the traumatic experience, the victims remained hopeful of regaining their freedom and expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to their rescue.

“We have scars already, and we believe that God will heal us. We appreciate everyone that contributed to this success,” Alamu said.

The rescued pupils and teachers were formally handed over to the Oyo State Government by the Federal Government following their release after spending more than 50 days in captivity.

A video shared by Oyo Affairs showed the victims arriving at the state secretariat in a security convoy and being escorted by heavily armed military personnel into the Government House.

The Federal Government had announced on Friday that security agencies successfully secured the release of all the abducted pupils and teachers, bringing an end to the weeks-long ordeal.
