Wife dies after collapsing during domestic dispute in Imo

Police in Imo State have arrested a 58-year-old man, Vitalis Nwoko, of Umuagba in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area, over the alleged killing of his wife, Uloma, during a domestic dispute.

The arrest followed a complaint by the deceased’s sister, who reported that Nwoko had assaulted his wife during an argument.

Acting on the report, operatives from the Ahiazu Mbaise Divisional Headquarters arrested the suspect and commenced an investigation.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Henry Okoye, said preliminary investigations revealed that a disagreement between the couple on December 11, 2025, escalated into a physical confrontation.

During the altercation, the woman reportedly collapsed and was rushed to Cecilia Hospital in Ogbe, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Okoye disclosed that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has urged residents to promptly report cases of domestic violence, assuring the public of the command’s resolve to deal decisively with offenders.
