Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, have set conditions for the party’s forthcoming national convention, demanding that the National Chairman position remain in the North-Central in line with the 2021 zoning arrangement.
Meeting in Abuja under the platform of Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, the group also called for fresh congresses in the South-East, Ebonyi, Anambra, and Ekiti, while insisting that the outcome of the South-South congress held in Calabar and upheld by the court must stand.
Reading the communiqué, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom warned that any convention conducted without addressing these demands would be invalid, as it would disenfranchise legitimate members.
Those present included the FCT Minister, PDP National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, former Governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Samuel Ortom, Ayo Fayose, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Kingsley Chinda, Rivers State House Speaker Martins Amaewhule, serving and former lawmakers, zonal vice chairmen, and several state PDP chairmen.
The leaders reaffirmed commitment to equity, justice, and inclusivity within the party, stressing that only a transparent and lawful convention could guarantee unity and restore the PDP’s strength as Nigeria’s main opposition.
