The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday begin a fresh round of infrastructure projects across the capital city, including the commissioning of completed roads, flagging off of 12 new road projects, and the rollout of the Light Up Abuja initiative.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the new projects will run between September 18 and October 16, 2025, marking another phase of Wike’s drive to accelerate urban renewal in Abuja.
As part of the schedule, the Minister will commission the access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District, along with the newly completed Esther Bali Street (Road ILS 11) and Kez Udezue Street (Road MAR 24) in Mabushi District.
The Light Up Abuja programme will also take off with the procurement of integrated hybrid solar lighting systems to illuminate major districts and expressways.
Areas under Lot I include Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District, and the Airport Expressway, while Lot II covers Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.
Other flagship projects to be flagged off include:
Full scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II.
Construction of Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III.
Provision of access roads to key projects such as the Mabushi Bus Terminal, Renewed Hope Cities in Karsana West, and the new FCT Fire Service Station in Kaura.
Rehabilitation of the 15km Old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction.
Engineering infrastructure for outstanding layouts in Guzape District.
Construction of Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro and transit connections between the Central Area and Wuse.
Residences for heads of top courts including the Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, FCT High Court, and Industrial Court.
This latest wave of projects follows recent interventions by the FCT Administration, including the expansion of water supply to satellite towns, the flag-off of a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, and the reconstruction of critical roads in Karu.
With the new rollout, Wike is expected to further push his agenda of expanding road networks, improving public utilities, and enhancing security through street lighting across Abuja.
