APC chieftain and federal lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin has urged members of the ruling party to stop publicly attacking FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing him as an asset to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Jibrin spoke Wednesday night on Channels Television’s Politics Today, amid criticism of Wike by some APC governors.
He said Wike had made significant sacrifices for Tinubu and the APC, despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“Wike is an asset to the APC. I don’t think Wike should be embarrassed at this moment with public statements,” Jibrin said.
The lawmaker said Wike helped the APC gain political ground in Rivers State and the FCT, adding that he had also asked some of his candidates to step down for APC candidates during the FCT elections.
“He handed over Rivers to APC. Wike had candidates for the FCT election but asked them to step down for APC,” he said.
Jibrin said his defence of Wike was not based on personal ties, noting that he had only met the minister twice.
He urged APC governors who had disagreements with Wike to engage him through dialogue rather than public attacks.
“For the governors, they should take Wike as part of them,” he said.
Jibrin added that Wike’s political support had contributed to the APC’s victory in five of the six FCT Area Councils, arguing that the party should leverage his support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
