Wike: It’s impossible for opposition to defeat Tinubu in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reassured residents of Abuja that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on delivering improved living conditions through ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly in satellite towns.

Wike gave the assurance on Wednesday while inspecting the road project linking Bwari and Kubwa, where he addressed residents who turned out to  him. He emphasized that the President’s priority is to ensure the well-being and happiness of Nigerians.

He also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s political strength in the FCT, stating that it would be difficult for any opposition candidate to defeat the President in the 2027 elections, citing visible infrastructural development as a key factor driving public support.

Speaking with journalists after touring several project sites across satellite communities, Wike pointed to ongoing transformations and their impact on residents’ daily lives as evidence of the administration’s commitment.

According to him, the government is deliberately shifting focus from the city centre to underserved rural and satellite areas to ensure inclusive development.

“These communities are part of Abuja, and their lives must also improve,” he said, noting that many residents are witnessing major infrastructure for the first time.

The minister highlighted key road projects in areas such as Karu, Apo-Kashi, and the Bwari-Kubwa corridor, explaining that improved road networks would boost economic activities, reduce travel time, and ease movement between the outskirts and the city centre.

He added that some of the projects are expected to be completed and commissioned as part of activities marking the President’s upcoming anniversary in office.

On concerns about real estate developers, Wike dismissed calls for a new regulatory body, stressing that existing institutions are capable of handling oversight responsibilities.

He explained that the Department of Development Control already has the mandate to enforce compliance with the Abuja Master Plan, adding that strengthening current structures is more effective than creating new agencies.

Wike assured residents that the FCT Administration would continue to address complaints, including taking action against malpractice and ensuring justice for affected individuals.

He also called for unity and continued public support for the government, noting that national progress requires collective effort, especially in addressing security challenges.

The minister expressed optimism that ongoing interventions would stimulate economic growth and enhance living standards across the FCT, while also extending Ramadan greetings to residents.
