Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says political leaders in Rivers State will work to correct what he described as a leadership mistake when the 2027 elections arrive.

Wike made the remark during a thank-you visit to Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area, where he expressed appreciation to the people of Khana for their continued support.

The minister reminded the crowd that leaders are elected to represent the interests of the people, not to pursue personal ambitions.

“We will not repeat the same mistake in 2027 at the state level,” he said, adding that further discussions would come “at the appropriate time.” He urged supporters to follow the direction of their leaders when the time comes.

Wike noted that his visit was not for politics, but to thank the community for standing with him and President Bola Tinubu, especially during the 2023 elections.

According to him, Khana benefited from that support through projects such as road construction and the University of Environment.

He added that more appointments and projects are expected for Ogoniland, saying Rivers people will now vote based on interest and development rather than party labels, in alignment with the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Earlier, Rep. Dumnamene Dekor praised Wike and President Tinubu, saying Ogoniland had become “a pride of the nation.” He assured Wike that Rivers lawmakers were committed to supporting Tinubu.

Also speaking, Khana lawmaker Barile Nwakoh thanked Wike for remembering the area and said women in the community were ready to support Tinubu if he seeks a second term.

Chairman of Khana Local Government, Dr. Thomas Bariere, also appreciated Wike’s support, saying development has improved in the area since they aligned with the President.

He pledged continued loyalty from the people of Khana.
