Wike: Nobody can silence me from speaking against injustice

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said nobody can silence him from speaking against injustice in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2023 general election.

Wike stated that no member of the main opposition party can silence him for demanding that the right thing be done.

The governor said this at the inauguration of the Emohua campus of Rivers State University and the flag-off of staff quarters on Wednesday.

The inauguration was performed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Governor Wike has been at loggerheads with PDP national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, over calls for the latter’s campaign.

While Ayu insisted he was duly elected to serve a tenure of four years and cannot resign before his first term in office, the governor had said the PDP chairman must resign as a condition to campaign for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2023 general election.

Wike and his loyalists said all top positions in the PDP are being occupied by northerners, noting that Ayu, who is from the North-Central must resign as a concession to the South.

Speaking on Wednesday, the governor said the time of reckoning is coming for those who continue to insist that they can take the national leadership in the PDP, adding that such persons would account for every wrong thing they have done when the day of reckoning comes.

“That is why I am telling the people there, look, it cannot work. You can’t take everything. If you take everything, it will purge you. So you better do the right thing now.

“Don’t sit there and think that you can muscle me and you can do everything; you can manipulate anything.

“You can think you have the number to make sure you take everything, but the time is coming when you will account for it,” Wike said.

Speaking at the event, Makinde hailed his Rivers State counterpart for the projects he has been commissioning in the state.

The governor further made reference to the recent Ayu’s statement, saying those calling for his resignation were still children when the PDP was formed.

“If children are doing all of these, I think what Nigeria needs are children. So, my brother Wike, you can be assured that Nigeria appreciates you,” Governor Makinde said.
