The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing him as a “social media president” who plays politics with everything.
Wike said this while speaking during a road commissioning event in Abuja on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
His comments followed Obi’s recent visit to LEA Primary School in the Kapwa, area of Abuja where the former Anambra State Governor decried the poor state of public schools in the FCT, describing it as a “national disgrace” that reflects Nigeria’s lack of commitment to education.
Wike accused Obi of hypocrisy, saying the latter neglected Anambra State during his eight years as governor while hoarding state funds.
He said: “The road we are commissioning today, it was a responsible citizen who called our attention to it and I’m happy that citizen is also here today.
“There is one social media man who calls himself presidential candidate, he went to one school in FCT and said we did not provide toilets for them. Imagine! He plays politics with everything.”

The minister further challenged Obi to publicly compare his achievements in Anambra State with the FCT administration’s accomplishments under his leadership.
Wike, a former two-term governor of Rivers State, added: “When he was governor for eight years, did he develop the entire Anambra? Instead he carried the state’s money and put in his bank.
“His name is Peter Obi. And that is why his successors have been struggling.
“I challenge him to come out publicly and compare what he did for eight years in Anambra with what we have done in the FCT in just two years.
“Someone who cannot manage a political party as a presidential candidate is talking about managing a complex country like Nigeria. He will remain a social media president.”
