Wike pushes satellite town development, hails progress on Abuja projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure development to satellite communities in Abuja, as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects across the capital city, Wike said the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is prioritising the opening up of rural and underserved areas through road construction and other critical infrastructure.

He expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on several projects, noting that key developments, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre annex, are nearing completion.

According to the minister, the facility is about 95 per cent completed, with installation of furniture already done and only finishing touches remaining.

Wike also inspected the access road to the complex being handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, commending the contractor for delivering a high-quality job within schedule.

He disclosed that the road project, alongside others, would be inaugurated as part of activities marking the president’s third anniversary in office.

The minister further highlighted progress on the Tudun Wada road linking Old Ushafa Road, stating that final works, including asphalt laying and installation of streetlights, would be completed within days.

Wike said ongoing expansion to areas such as Zuba reflects the administration’s resolve to ensure that development is not limited to the city centre.

“My greatest happiness is that we are opening up satellite communities. That is what development is all about,” he said.

He also commended contractors handling the various projects for meeting timelines and maintaining quality standards.

Addressing concerns about alleged underutilisation of funds by Area Councils, Wike dismissed the claims, noting that most councils are burdened by salary obligations, particularly the payment of teachers.

He urged critics to base their claims on verified facts, stressing that the FCT Administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure that improves the lives of residents across all parts of the territory.
