Wike rallies Rivers behind Tinubu ahead of 2027

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State must continue to support President Bola Tinubu, citing what he described as significant benefits the state has received under the current administration.

Wike made the remark on Saturday in Port Harcourt during a luncheon organised by the Rainbow Coalition for candidates contesting the forthcoming governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly elections in the state.

The former Rivers governor urged residents to assess the gains recorded under Tinubu’s administration against those of previous governments, insisting that the difference was clear.

He said the state had enjoyed notable federal appointments and development opportunities since 2023, adding that such recognition should not be taken for granted.

According to him, Rivers people have a responsibility to sustain their support for the President in future elections.

Wike also downplayed ethnic and sectional considerations in politics, stressing that governance and development should guide voters’ decisions.

He advised political actors to prioritise grassroots mobilisation, noting that electoral victories are secured at the polling unit level rather than through media visibility.

The minister expressed confidence in the strength of the Rainbow Coalition, saying it would play a dominant role in the state’s political landscape.

He invited politicians seeking relevance to align with the coalition, assuring them of opportunities and inclusion.

Wike further cautioned against attempts to destabilise the state, warning that Rivers people would resist any external interference.

He also extended an olive branch to aggrieved politicians, urging them to return and work together in the interest of unity and development.

Reiterating his stance on leadership, Wike said competence and commitment to public welfare should outweigh ethnic or religious considerations.

The event drew participation from candidates of major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and Action Alliance, while the Labour Party candidate was represented.

Party leaders and stakeholders in attendance commended Wike’s role in fostering political collaboration across party lines in Rivers State.
