Wike tasks South-South development commission on regional growth

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has urged the newly inaugurated Board of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to prioritize grassroots development in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Wike gave the charge when the Board members and management team, led by Chairman Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, paid him a courtesy visit in his Abuja office on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

Congratulating the members on their appointments, Wike emphasized that their selection reflected trust and called on them to justify it through dedicated service.

“The only way to make the President proud is to work tirelessly to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda in your region. Your loyalty is to him,” he said.

The Minister warned against politicizing the Commission’s work or misusing public funds and stressed teamwork, financial prudence, and accountability.

He advised members to consult widely with stakeholders and avoid duplicating projects already implemented by states or local governments.

Highlighting the significance of courageous leadership, Wike commended President Tinubu for establishing regional development commissions, noting that such a bold move had not been attempted by any previous administration.

Earlier, Chairman Nwuche expressed gratitude for Wike’s support in the Commission’s establishment and assured him of the Board’s commitment to delivering results.

Managing Director Miss Usoro Akpabio also pledged that the Commission would diligently execute its mandate to advance development across the South-South region.
