Woman arrested over mutilation of boyfriend in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, for allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a knife and severing his genitals at a hotel in Kano.

The suspect, who hails from Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, was arrested following the incident at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said in a statement on Monday that the attack was allegedly triggered after the woman discovered that her boyfriend planned to marry another woman.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer of Badawa Division led a team of detectives to the hotel after receiving a distress report. The suspect was arrested at the scene, while the knife allegedly used in the attack was recovered as evidence.

The injured man was rushed to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Police said investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori condemned the attack and warned residents against taking the law into their own hands.

He assured the public that the Command would carry out a thorough investigation and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness identified as a security guard working near the hotel told Daily Trust that the suspect allegedly invited the victim to lodge at the hotel after learning of his plans to end their relationship and marry another woman.

The eyewitness alleged that the woman attacked the man while they were inside the hotel room.

She was subsequently restrained and handed over to the police, while the victim was taken to hospital for emergency medical treatment.
