A woman identified simply as Esther has reportedly died after visiting her boyfriend in Abuja, sparking an investigation by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory. A resident of the area, Dauda, said Esther left her home that afternoon after informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei but did not return.
According to Dauda, the woman’s elder brother later received a phone call that night from a man who claimed to be Esther’s boyfriend, informing him of her death.
The caller reportedly said Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating, she allegedly began vomiting and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital.
Dauda said the boyfriend claimed Esther died while receiving treatment at the hospital. He added that since making the call, the boyfriend has switched off his phone, as has Esther’s phone, and did not provide his name or address.
“Esther left home in the afternoon of January 21, 2026, telling her sister she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei,” Dauda said.
“Later that night, her brother received a call from a man who said he was her boyfriend and that she had died at Kubwa General Hospital after falling ill. Since then, his phone has been switched off.”
When contacted on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the incident had been reported and that investigations were ongoing.
“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said.
