An unidentified woman has been found dead inside a church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist reportedly severed.
The discovery prompted police detectives to visit the scene, where preliminary findings indicated that the woman had been killed and her wrist removed.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the police, the circumstances surrounding the killing and the motive behind the attack remain unknown.
“The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons,” Iniedu said.
The police said efforts were underway to identify the deceased and determine how she was killed, as well as establish those responsible for the crime.
Her remains were deposited at a hospital mortuary for autopsy, while the State Criminal Investigation Department commenced a full investigation into the incident.
The authorities urged anyone with useful information about the victim or circumstances surrounding her death to assist the investigation.
