Workers, motorists stranded over Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident

Scores of workers and motorists were stranded after an overturned truck at the Otedola Bridge caused a heavy traffic along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Friday, January 23, 2026.

It was gathered that the gridlock stretched from the Otedola Bridge to Kara axis, as both sides of the ever-busy highway were blocked.

Many workers and others were seen trekking distance over the blockage of the expressway.

Confirming the incident via a post on Facebook, the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command disclosed that the incident occurred as a result of the overturned truck.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also confirmed the incident.

LASTMA wrote on X: “An accident occurred on Otedola bridge inward Secretariat involving a mini truck loaded with sand and another one loaded with Granite.

“Men of Nigerian Police Force with LASTMA personnel are fully on ground for the needful to be done

“This is currently affecting free flow of traffic from New Garage.

“The traffic backlog has almost gotten to the Long bridge, though effort is in top gear for the evacuation of the affected vehicles.
