World record holder Tobi Amusan has qualified for the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, after winning her heat on Sunday.
Amusan, 28, stormed to victory in heat six, clocking 12.53s to secure an automatic spot in Tuesday’s semi-finals.
Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton placed second with 12.69s, while Elena Carraro of Italy finished third in 12.86s.
Other big names, including Olympic champion Masai Russell (USA), reigning world champion Danielle Williams (Jamaica), Nadine Visser (Netherlands), Ackera Nugent (Jamaica), and Grace Stark (USA), all advanced comfortably from their respective heats.

Amusan will return to the track on Tuesday for both the semi-finals and the final as she continues her quest for another world title.
In other events, Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye fell short of the women’s hammer throw qualification mark, managing a best effort of 68.82m and missing out on a place in the final.
Meanwhile, sprinters Kanyisola Ajayi and Israel Okon will feature later today (Sunday) in the semi-finals of the men’s 100m, with the final scheduled for the evening session.
