World Cup: Scotland top Group C after Brazil draw Morocco

Scotland moved to the summit of FIFA World Cup Group C after recording a 1-0 victory over Haiti, following Brazil and Morocco’s earlier 1-1 draw.

Scotland secured all three points in their opening match at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, with John McGinn scoring the decisive goal in the first half.

McGinn struck in the 28th minute after Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide saved Che Adams’ effort, leaving the Scottish midfielder to react quickest and finish.

The victory ended Scotland’s long wait for a World Cup win, marking their first success in the tournament since 1990.

Haiti pushed for an equaliser after falling behind and created several late opportunities, but Scotland’s defence remained strong to protect the narrow advantage.

Earlier in Group C, Brazil and Morocco played out a 1-1 draw at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Morocco produced a strong performance against the five-time world champions and took the lead through Ismael Saibari in the 21st minute.

Brazil responded through Vinicius Junior, who equalised in the 32nd minute to rescue a point for the side.

The second half saw both sides search for a winner, but Morocco’s disciplined defending prevented Brazil from completing a comeback.

The results left Scotland top of Group C with three points, while Brazil and Morocco followed with one point each.
