‘You can never inherit me’: Portable accuses father of exploitation

Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, fondly called Portable, has accused his father of theft and years of parental neglect.

Speaking in a recent Instagram live session, Portable alleged that his father abandoned his responsibilities while he was growing up, leaving him without formal education or any structured vocational training.

The singer said he was sent away from Abuja and forced to survive on his own, eventually relocating to Lagos where he learned tailoring to make ends meet.

The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner expressed anger that his father, whom he said never stood by him during difficult moments — including encounters with the police — is now allegedly inserting himself into his life for financial benefit.

He accused his father of interfering in his family matters, taking his personal belongings, and demanding money from the mothers of his children.

Portable said: “My dad is only concerned with getting money from me. There is no time I would be in the police station that he will ever come to my aid as his son.

“But you can now collect the phone numbers of your son’s baby mamas and collect money from them. You will be sniffing around my family.

“You are with me, yet my life is scattered. When you are not with me, my life goes on.”

Portable further alleged that his father attempted to defraud him while handling a house construction project by inflating the cost of building materials.

The singer said the funds meant for blocks and other materials were misrepresented, resulting in financial losses.

Portable plans return to school to strengthen career management

He, therefore, rejected any suggestion that his father could lay claim to his wealth or properties, insisting he would protect his assets.

He also referenced the late singer Mohbad, saying he would not allow himself to be exploited or mistreated in a similar manner.

Portable added: “You did not take care of me. You did not send me to school. You are just like baba Mohbad; you are always wearing my shoes and clothes.

“You can never inherit me. I will not allow you to do to me what they did to Mohbad. My father is ready to take my properties, including my cars and my clothes.

“When I wanted to build a house, I told him to handle it. He was always cheating me. A block of N300,000, he will call it N900,000. You stand on my toes because of my properties.

“When my mother died, my father said he was not concerned. My father was cheating me on the purchase of bricks. You were in Abuja doing your thing.

“My father sent me away from Abuja, and I came to learn tailoring in Lagos.”
