The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lashed out at Governor Dauda Lawal for failing to fulfil his 2023 campaign promise to end banditry in the state within three months of assuming office.
In a statement issued by the Zamfara APC spokesperson, Yusauf Gusau, on Sunday, May 18, 2025, the party accused Governor Lawal of offering false hope to residents and delivering little in the fight against armed banditry.
The statement followed the circulation of a video in which the governor discussed his administration’s efforts to tackle insecurity and support victims.
The APC described the video as a display of “insincerity” and said the governor appeared more concerned with political appearances than addressing the suffering of citizens affected by violence.
“He promised to eliminate banditry within two months, yet two years into his tenure, the situation has worsened,” the party stated.
The opposition party in the state further accused the governor of neglecting victims of bandit attacks, citing his alleged failure to visit affected communities or provide tangible support.
The Zamfara APC noted that hospitals in the state, including Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau, had denied treatment to victims due to lack of funds—contrary to Lawal’s claims that treatment was free.

The APC challenged the state government and the hospitals to publish a list of beneficiaries who allegedly received free medical care, along with details of expenses, treatment records, and payment receipts.
The party urged Lawal to apologise to the people of Zamfara and Nigerians for what they described as misleading statements.
They called on him to collaborate with stakeholders to genuinely tackle the security crisis and support victims, warning that further misinformation would only increase public discontent.
“Zamfara people are not deceived by political propaganda,” the APC concluded.
