Zamfara Assembly suspends 8 lawmakers over Speaker’s impeachment

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended eight lawmakers who impeached the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, last Thursday.

The lawmakers had impeached Moriki and appointed a pro-tempo Speaker over insecurity in the state.

Moving the motion for the suspension of the eight lawmakers, the Majority Leader of the House, Muhammad Mazawaje, on Monday, February 26, 2024, said the members were accused of breaking into the offices of the Clerk of the House and Sergeant at Arm and destroyed other things at the Assembly complex in Zamfara State.

The eight members suspended by the House include Sani Abdullahi, Nasiru Mar, Bashir Abubakar, Aminu Keta, Faruk Musa Dosara, Bashir Aliyu, Ibrahim T. Tukur, and Shamsuddeen Hassan.

Zamfara lawmakers impeach Speaker over insecurity

The House Leader described the sitting of the eight lawmakers last Thursday as illegal, stressing that their act to destroy some offices at the Assembly to conduct an illegal sitting was contrary to legislative rules.

The six lawmakers in their separate presentations at Monday’s sitting also accused some top politicians outside Zamfara State of sponsoring the eight lawmakers to disrupt the House as well as that of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration.

They also called on the constituents of the affected lawmakers and people in the state to disregard the acts of the other lawmakers making news rounds that the Speaker of the House has been suspended.
