Mummuni announced the defection on behalf of the governor during a meeting with party supporters and stakeholders in Zamfara State on Monday, March 9, 2026.

He conveyed the governor’s message, stating that the move was taken after wide deliberations with political allies and stakeholders.
“We, the governor, his team, and I, have decided to officially leave the PDP and join the APC,” Mummuni said.

Mummuni explained that the decision was aimed at positioning Zamfara State for stronger collaboration with the Federal Government and improving development in the state.
He added that aligning with the APC would help the state secure more federal support, tackle security challenges, and accelerate economic and infrastructural development.
The deputy governor also urged party members, supporters and residents of Zamfara State to back the decision, stressing that the move was made in the overall interest of the state.
