10-year-old boy kills colleague during football match in Lagos

The officers of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 10-year-old boy (name withheld) for allegedly strangulating his 10-year-old colleague to death during a football match in the Ejigbo area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Sunday, March 31, 2024.

Hundeyin said the Ejigbo Police Division received the information at about 6.20 p.m. on Friday, March 29.

He said the father of the deceased reported the case to the police that his 10-year-old son, Israel Ogunleye, was playing football with some boys at Oluwole Street, Powerline in the Ejigbo area, where the mother of the boy has her shop located.

The police spokesman noted that the father of the boy reported that his son had an argument with one of the boys, who is also 10 years old.

He said the man alleged that the 10-year-old suspect held the neck of his son and strangulated him until he died.

Hundeyin added: “Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene and photographed the place and corpse. The corpse was taken to the General Hospital Isolo, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

“The body was transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem examination and the suspect is in police custody and investigation is in progress.”
