A tragic incident occurred at a block-molding site in Yar-doka Village, Damau District of Kubau Local Government Area, Kaduna State, where a sand collapse claimed the lives of eleven workers and left several others injured.
The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident, which took place on Monday, through a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, on Wednesday.
Hassan reported that the disaster happened around 1:45 p.m., following information received from the village head, Alhaji Lawal Damau.

The report revealed that a large mass of sand caved in while workers were engaged at the local block-making site, trapping and killing 11 people on the spot.
Seven others sustained various injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the village’s primary health centre.
Authorities have begun an investigation to ascertain the cause of the collapse. Both local and state officials have been informed, and updates will be provided as more details emerge.
DSP Hassan stressed the critical need for safety regulations at construction and excavation sites to prevent future tragedies.
“This unfortunate event underscores the urgent need for strict safety measures at construction sites,” he said.
“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and those affected by this heartbreaking incident.”
