13 NNPP Reps dismiss defection rumours, reaffirm loyalty to party

Thirteen members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have denied reports claiming they are planning to defect to other political parties.

The lawmakers, all associated with the Kwankwasiya Movement in Kano State, restated their unwavering loyalty to the NNPP and its leadership during a press conference addressed by Hon. Garba Diso on Thursday in Abuja.

Their clarification comes on the same day two NNPP lawmakers from Kano — Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin and Hon. Sagir Koki — formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) during plenary.

Speaking to journalists, Diso described the rumours of an impending mass defection as “false, malicious, and the handiwork of political detractors” who feel threatened by the NNPP’s rising influence and unity, particularly in Kano State.

“We categorically debunk these unfounded rumours and urge the public, our supporters, and all well-meaning Nigerians to disregard such misleading claims,” he said.

He explained that their engagement with lawmakers from other parties should not be misconstrued as a loss of loyalty but rather as part of their duty to work across party lines for national development.

“Our interactions with members of other political parties reflect our commitment to bipartisan cooperation aimed at advancing good governance, unity, and progress for all Nigerians,” he added.

The lawmakers reaffirmed their allegiance to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya ideology, which they say champions justice, equity, inclusiveness, and people-focused leadership.

“No amount of misinformation or propaganda will shake our faith in the movement or in its leadership,” Diso maintained.

They also pledged continued commitment to delivering quality governance, improved education, stronger healthcare systems, youth empowerment, and better living standards for Nigerians.

“We stand firm, united, and loyal to the NNPP, to the Kwankwasiya Movement, and to the people we serve,” he said.
