A 14-year-old girl from Gombe State who was forcibly married to a stranger in Taraba State has been rescued by authorities.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Gombe, Asma’u Iganus, confirmed the rescue, revealing that the minor was married off to a wealthy man as his fourth wife.
Describing the act as a severe violation of the girl’s fundamental rights, the commissioner expressed outrage, stating, “This is a gross abuse of her rights, and we will not tolerate it.”
She further disclosed that legal proceedings are already in motion to ensure the girl’s freedom is secured and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
