15 die, 13 injured in Katsina accident

No fewer than 15 persons have been confirmed dead in an accident on Funtua-Gusau Road in the Funtua area of Katsina State.

The road crash was confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, on Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Ma’aji, in a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, Shamsudeen Babajo, disclosed that the accident, which occurred on Saturday, involved a Toyota Hiace and Dangote truck.

Ma’aji said the accident was a result of a tyre bust by the Toyota bus, leading to a loss of control and a head-on collision.

He noted that the crash claimed the lives of 15 persons with 13 others sustaining various degrees of injuries.

The FRSC Sector Commander added that the victims were taken to Funtua General Hospital by the corps of Funtua Unit Command patrol team.

Ma’aji urged motorists to always monitor the conditions of their tyres before embarking on a journey.

He also enjoined them to avoid speeding, overloading, and reckless driving, as part of measures to avert road accidents.
