An 18-year-old woman has been arrested in Bauchi State for allegedly stabbing her 30-year-old husband in the stomach during a dispute over a phone, money and clothing wrappers.
The incident occurred at about 6am on Sunday in Lirr Bajar, Dass Local Government Area, according to the Bauchi State Police Command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, confirmed the incident to journalists, saying the disagreement escalated after the woman demanded the return of her money, wrappers and phone, which she claimed were with her husband.
Habib said the argument turned violent when Fatima Dalha allegedly picked up a nearby knife and stabbed her husband in the stomach.
The victim reportedly fell and began bleeding, prompting residents to gather at the scene. An angry mob allegedly attempted to lynch the suspect before police operatives from the Dass Division intervened.
“The husband was rushed to a hospital, where he is now receiving treatment,” Habib said.
The police spokesman said the suspect had been detained and the knife allegedly used in the attack recovered.
He added that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed concern over domestic violence among young couples and urged spouses to resolve disagreements peacefully through family members, community elders and lawful channels.
He also warned residents against jungle justice, assuring that the police would handle the case professionally and ensure that justice was served.
