A 15-year-old girl, Miracle Ogbonna, has been electrocuted while fetching water in the Olomore Housing Estate area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident via a statement on Monday, disclosed that the electrocution occurred on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
Odutola noted that a case of electrocution was reported to the Divisional Police Office (DPO) of Lafenwa by a resident of Olomore Housing Estate, Onyekachi Silas.
The police spokesperson said: “Onyekachi narrated to the DPO that his younger brother called him on the phone on Sunday at about 11:50 p.m. that one Miracle Ogbonna ‘f’ 15 years, who is also the brother’s wife’s younger sister and residing with them was electrocuted.

“He further stated that there was a power outage in the house and Miracle went to the Well to fetch water.
“In the process of Miracle fetching water, power was restored by IBEDC. Miracle was tragically electrocuted by a naked cable wire of the pumping machine imbedded in the Well.
“She was rescued and rushed to Rose Hospital, where the duty doctor confirmed her dead.
“No further details yet about the negligent circumstances of imbedding a naked wire into a Well.”
Odutola stated that an investigation into the incident had commenced, adding that the corpse had been deposited at the Oke Lantoro morgue in Ogun State.
