A 20-year-old man has been apprehended over an alleged unlawful possession of a human part in Oyo State.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
Ayanlade said community vigilance group members arrested the suspect who disguised as a scavenger in the Oroki area of Oyo due to his strange movements and conduct at about 8:00 a.m. on Friday.
Ayanlade said the concerned residents subjected the suspect to a search and found a human being’s right leg inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession.

He stated: “Upon receipt of the report, a police joint patrol team, in collaboration with other security partners, swiftly rushed to the scene where an angry mob had gathered with intent to lynch the suspect.
“The team professionally dispersed the mob and rescued him from imminent harm, while the suspected human part was recovered as exhibit and secured for forensic and investigative purposes.”
The police spokesman said the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
