The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has announced the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate for the 2023 general election.
Atiku made the announcement via a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Thursday.
He wrote: “I am delighted to announce Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as my Vice Presidential candidate.
“I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done.”
The PDP had earlier set up a Vice Presidential Candidate Screening Committee to screen the nominated vice presidential candidate of the party.
The main opposition party stated that the screening of the PDP vice presidential candidate would hold at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Thursday (today).
This comes amidst the directive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to political parties in the country to submit the list of their candidates and running mates (presidential and governorship) from June 10 to 17, 2022.
The Star had reported that INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gave the directive during a meeting with resident electoral commissioners in Abuja on Thursday.
