A group, The Christain Conscience, has urged candidates vying for different positions to demonstrate a high level of discipline and statesmanship, and eschew politics of bitterness ahead of the 2023 general election.

The Christain Conscience made the call at the end of its annual meeting held at Ikeja, Lagos State on Thursday.

The group, in a statement signed by its National President, Dr Yetunde Akinluyi, and the National Secretary Dr Kolawole Verrals, on Friday, said: “When our political gladiators follow the will of God and eschew politics of bitterness in their campaigns, their followers will follow suit.

“Conducts of party members are often drawn from the body language of their respective political leaders, hence when the conducts of such leaders suggest violence or do or die, such conduct  flows in the veins of their followers.”

The Christain Conscience, while felicitating with Nigerians on the festive season, urged Nigerians to celebrate the season with modest conduct, “be prayerful and watchful so that the Will of God will continue to rule the affairs of Nigerians and the nation.”

The group further urged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and ensure the security of lives and properties before and during the 2023 general election.
