The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has announced the founder of Baze University in Abuja, Datti Baba-Ahmed, as his running mate for the 2023 general election.
Obi announced Baba-Ahmed as the LP vice-presidential candidate in Abuja on Friday.
The 46-year-old is a former lawmaker who represented Kaduna North senatorial district between 2011 and 2012.
The latest development is coming barely 24 hours after former presidential spokesperson, Doyin Okupe, announced his withdrawal as the party’s vice-presidential candidate.

Okupe, who is the Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, announced his withdrawal as the party’s vice-presidential candidate via a tweet on his Twitter handle.
“This afternoon I submitted my withdrawal letter from the position of the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party to INEC.
“A replacement will be announced by the national chairman of d party shortly. I feel greatly blessed to have been part of the foundation of success for the LP,” he had stated.
The Star had reported that Okupe was named as the party’s vice-presidential candidate to beat the deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The former presidential aide had said he was standing in as Obi’s running mate, noting that discussions were ongoing to choose a substantive vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
