Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, have led political stakeholders in the North-Central in a grassroots mobilisation campaign for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The North-Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima was launched during a strategic meeting held at Akume’s office in Abuja on Friday.

Akume, who is the grand patron of the movement, said the initiative would take the campaign beyond Abuja and mobilise support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket across communities in the region.

“The principal objective of this movement is to canvass support and mobilise a massive turnout for Mr President in the 2027 election,” Akume said.

He said the North-Central was targeting the highest regional vote total for Tinubu in the election.

Sule described the initiative as timely, saying the region was now politically stronger than it was ahead of the 2023 election.

He pointed to the presence of Akume as SGF, the APC National Chairman and other key political appointees from the region as evidence of the zone’s increased political influence.

The governor expressed confidence that the region would mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in 2027.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described the movement as the first of its kind and commended its National Coordinator, Sonny Echono, for bringing stakeholders together.

Idris also pledged government support for the mobilisation activities ahead of the general election.

Echono said the movement would coordinate political leaders and grassroots stakeholders across the six North-Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The conversation is no longer simply about whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win the North-Central, but about the region positioning itself to deliver the highest number of votes to the President in the 2027 election,” he said.

The movement has also outlined a series of activities ahead of the election, including a grand rally scheduled for October 10 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, medical outreaches and grassroots advocacy tours and town hall meetings across the region.

The stakeholders have also resolved to establish a reconciliation committee to address internal grievances among APC members and strengthen coordination ahead of the 2027 election.
