A non-denominational group, Christian Conscience, has called on political stakeholders to avoid divisive politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging them to promote national unity, mutual respect and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
The group made the call in a statement issued after its monthly meeting in Lagos on Thursday. The statement was jointly signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Yetunde Akinluyi, National Secretary, Rev. Dr. Kolawole Verrals, and made available by the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunji Oguntuase.
Christian Conscience urged political parties and their supporters to see Nigeria’s ethnic and religious diversity as a source of strength rather than division.
According to the group, as political parties begin mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, leaders must avoid politics of bitterness and embrace democratic values capable of fostering peace and national stability.
“Politicians should see our diversity as a weapon of strength, not a source of division,” the statement said.
The group stressed that every Nigerian, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, religion or region, deserves equal opportunity and should be united by a common commitment to the country’s progress.
Christian Conscience also commended security agencies, particularly the military and intelligence operatives, for their role in securing the release of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Orire, Oyo State.
It, however, urged the security agencies to sustain intelligence-driven operations to secure the release of other victims still being held by kidnappers across the country.
The group further praised the Federal Government for demonstrating the political will that led to the successful rescue operation and called on the authorities to maintain the same commitment in addressing insecurity nationwide.
